Description
This vintage Seiko Lord Matic Special 5216-7060 is a striking example of Seiko’s higher-grade mechanical watchmaking from the 1970s. Its standout feature is the beautiful green gradient dial, transitioning from a lighter centre into a rich darker green around the outer edge and changing dramatically depending on the light. Applied faceted hour markers, the distinctive LM emblem and “SPECIAL 23 JEWELS” signature complete the dial, alongside a bilingual Kanji/English day-date display at 3 o’clock. The sharply finished stainless-steel case and matching bracelet give the watch the bold, angular appearance synonymous with Seiko design from this period.
Inside is Seiko’s 23-jewel calibre 5216A automatic movement, part of the highly regarded 52-series of movements produced by Seiko’s Daini factory. The movement combines automatic winding with hand-winding and hacking functionality, while its higher-beat construction makes the Lord Matic Special an especially interesting step above Seiko’s more conventional automatic watches of the era. Presented on a stainless-steel bracelet, this example combines a spectacular green dial, distinctly Japanese day wheel and sophisticated mechanical movement to create a particularly collectible and eye-catching vintage Seiko.
