Description

Dating to 1970, this Seiko Lord Matic 5606-7140 is a superb example of Seiko’s higher-grade mechanical watchmaking from the period. The watch features a beautifully understated black dial, contrasted by applied silver-tone hour markers and matching hands, with the distinctive LM emblem and “Lord Matic 25 Jewels” signature at 6 o’clock. A bilingual Kanji/English day-date display at 3 o’clock adds a distinctly Japanese character, while the broad stainless-steel case gives the watch the sharp, substantial appearance that has made vintage Lord Matics increasingly desirable.

At its heart is Seiko’s 25-jewel calibre 5606 automatic movement, part of the celebrated 56-series family and featuring both hand-winding and hacking seconds. The watch has been fitted with a new tan leather strap with contrasting cream stitching, providing a warm contrast against the black dial and making it ready to wear. The stainless-steel case retains honest signs of age and previous use, complementing the vintage character of the piece. With its striking black dial, Japanese day wheel and classic 1970s Seiko design, this is an exceptionally wearable example from one of Seiko’s most interesting vintage mechanical ranges.
